Sound Progression is developing a new music Academy supported by the Arts Council of Wales’s National Lottery Scheme and in partnership with Cardiff Youth Service, Buzz and Pride Cymru. Our aim is to develop ten music acts ranging from bands, singers, songwriters and rappers and present them on our own Youth management stage at Pride’s Big Weekend on Sunday 25th August. The Academy includes an intensive summer school taking place at East Moors Youth Centre, Splott between Monday 19 and Saturday 24 August with daily sessions between 11am and 5pm.
We are looking for young volunteers, aged 11-21 years, to support the behind the scenes Media and Stage Management teams plus adults (+21 years) to support the general day to day running of the summer school. We are particularly interested in hearing from people who live within our provision areas – Butetown, Grangetown, Ely, Splott and St Mellons and those from BAME backgrounds.
Media Team Volunteer –
Up to eight young volunteers will have the opportunity to create video documentaries and media posts to support our general marketing and communications campaign. We are looking for young people who are active on social media and/or have an interest in documentary film making and learning interviewing, presenting, writing and editing techniques. This role also includes a day shadowing at Buzz magazine.
Stage Management Team Volunteer –
Up to eight young people working to a range of tasks including setting up the stage and equipment, live mixing and lighting plus we are looking for organised volunteers to help with the scheduling, ushering and people management. The Stage management team will also have an opportunity to spend a day shadowing 11th Hour Production Company, helping set-up the stages and infrastructure of the Big Weekend.
Youth Support Volunteer –
Up to six adults working with our professional team to support the day to day management and to help develop the potential and skills of young people. We welcome interest from those who have previous experience of youth engagement and have an interest in music and community cohesion. This role will also include helping prepare meals and refreshments, front of house management and accompanying young people’s shadowing experience plus supporting the management of the Youth Stage at the Big Weekend.
Fun, vibrant and sociable week working with a diverse range of young people and talents.
Volunteers living outside the Splott area or not living within walking distances of the centre will be reimbursed for a weekly bus pass and will be provided with refreshments and lunch during the Summer School period. Plus receive an Academy branded T-shirt or Hoodie and gain free entry to the Big Weekend with £10 cash towards the costs of buying lunch and refreshments at the event. In addition, Youth Support Volunteers will be provided with Safeguarding Training and DBS checks.
